IMPROVING STUDENTSí LISTENING SKILL BY USING ENGLISH POETRY AT EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 1 KRAGILAN (A Classroom Action Research)

This research goal attempts to know whether students listening skill can be improved by using English poetry. Researcher uses narrative poem, to be more specific fable narrative poem, to teach listening. This research was accomplished at the 8th Grade of SMPN 1 Kragilan in which consists of 32 students. Researcher conducted a Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Kemmis and McTaggart which each consists of four phases: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Researcher uses two types of data; qualitative and quantitative data. Listening test included written and oral test which consisted of pre-test and post-test. Mean score of written pre-test was 53.5 and oral pre-test was 65. Mean score of written post-test1 was 62.9 and oral post-test1 was 69.3. Then, mean score of written post-test2 was 78.9 and oral post-test2 was 72.1. The first improvement of written test between post-test1 and pre-test were 9.4 and the second improvement between post-test2 and post-test1 were 16. Then, the first improvement of oral test between post-test1 and pre-test were 4.3 and the second improvement between post-test2 and post-test1 were 2.8. Based on those result, there were 26 of 32 (written test) and 17 of 32 (oral test) students passed the KKM and it means this action research is successful.
