THE INFLUENCE OF USING CLUSTERING TECHNIQUE TOWARD STUDENTSí WRITING RECOUNT TEXT A True Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 13 Kota Serang

The purpose of the research was to know the influence of using clustering technique toward students’ writing recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 13 Kota Serang. To achieve the purpose of the research, the researcher conducted true-experimental research at SMPN 13 Kota Serang. The population of this research was eighth grade students of SMPN 13 Kota Serang in academic year 2014/2015. For the sample, the researcher took two classes based on cluster random sampling technique, VIII C as experimental class and VIII F as control class. Both of classes consisted of 35 students. The experimental class was taught writing recount text by using clustering technique, while the control class was taught writing recount text by using conventional method or without using clustering technique. The instrument of this research was tests; pre-test and posttest. The research findings showed the result of post-test mean score in experimental class was higher than the result of post-test mean score in control class. The post-test mean score of control class was 80.57 and the post-test mean score of experimental class was 85.14. To prove that the mean score of both classes were significantly different, the data was analyzed by using t-test. The result of data analysis showed that ttest > ttable (2.51 > 1.67) which indicated that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, so it means there was an influence of using clustering technique in students’ writing recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 13 Kota Serang. The findings of this research indicated that the use of clustering technique toward students’ writing recount text helped students to get better achievement in writing.
