IMPROVING STUDENTSí ACHIEVEMENT IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT THROUGH THINK PAIR SHARE STRATEGY AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMKS 17 KOTA SERANG

The objectives of the research were to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class the Tenth Grade of SMKS 17 Kota Serang. The number of the students was 31 students, consisted of 5 males and 26 females. The research was conducted into two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were observation sheet, interview list, and documentation as qualitative data and writing tests as the quantitative data. Based on the instruments above, the process of teaching and learning recount text was active and effective by using think-pair-share strategy. The students were enthusiastic while learning by using this strategy. Based on the observation sheet, interview list, and documentation, there was improvement of students’ achievement in writing recount text. Not only the students’ interaction while learning, but also the students’ behavior, and the atmosphere of the class was improved. The improvement of them was about 95 % higher than the process of learning before applying think-pair-share strategy. Based on the writing score, the students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 52.5, for the second test as a posttest I was 79.4, for the last test as a post-test II was 82.9. It was found that the students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.
