THE INFLUENCE OF USING VIDEO TOWARD STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMP PRIMA BAKTI CIKUPA - TANGERANG

The objectives of this research were to find out how is the process of using video sequences to teach English vocabulary, to know the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after they use video sequences and to know whether or not video sequences motivate students in learning English vocabulary at the eighth grade students of SMP Prima BaktiCikupa in Tangerang.The population of this research was all of students of the eighth grade of SMP Prima BaktiCikupa in Tangerang, and the sample that was used in this research was taken randomly. The researcher takes two classes as a sample research ( A class and B Class). A class consists of 20 students as control class and B class consist of 20 students as experimental class.the researcher used quantitative research implementing the true experimental for research method in this research. The results of pretest on control class were total score = 1.024, the highest score = 72, the lowest score = 28, Range score = 44, and Mean score = 51, 20, whereas the result of pretest on experimental class were total score = 1.264, the highest score = 76, the lowest score = 52, Range score = 24, and Mean score = 63,20 and then the results of posttest on control class were total score = 1.108, the highest score = 72, the lowest score = 40, Range score = 32, and Mean score = 55,40 whereas the result of posttest on experimental class were total score = 1.516, the highest score = 88, the lowest score = 60, Range score = 28, and Mean score = 75,80. It shows that the gaining score the experimental class higher than control class. The instruments of the research were observation their activity and test. The activity was observed intensively as a way to find out how video sequences influences their ability of increasing vocabulary. The researcher found that using picture sequences was very effective. There were some benefits of using picture sequences: 1) vocabulary program make the students more active in learning vocabulary, 2) video sequences can motivate students in learning vocabulary, 3) video sequences makes the students easier in memorizing new vocabulary.In conclusion, the researcher concludes that the use of video sequences is effective in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery.
