THE ANALYSIS OF STUDENTSí CODE MIXING IN TWITTER STATUS

This study is intended to find out: (I) why do the students used code mixing in their communication at twitter status (2) what factors that influence the students used code mixing in twitter status (3) what are the types of code mixing that students used in their twitter status. It was carried in Twitter Social Media. The technique used is the qualitative research through content analysis. The data of this research was gathered by doing observation, documentation, and interview. It was obtained from the process of students’ status in twitter. The objectives of the research are to find out the types of code mixing used by English Department students in eighth semester based on liofiman’s theory and to explain the factors or reasons of code mixing used by the students. The researcher focused on one phenomenon is Code Mixing Used by several English Department Students at Eighth Semester of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. The research subjects are @xxx_f_1, @xxx_f_2, @.xxx_f_3, @xxx_f_4, @xxx_f_5, @xxx_f_6, @xxx_f_7, @xxx_f_8, @xxx_m_1, and @xxx_m_2 English Department Students at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University during eight times. In analyzing the data, the researcher used matrix descriptive of Miles and Huherman that consists of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion/vcrification. Data reduction was used to collect data from observation, documentation, and interview. Last, conclusion was used to describe all of data. The result of this research was form of code mixing used by the students, including insertion, alternation, congruent lexicalization. Then, the factors that cause code mixing were psychology factors of the students, to emphasize request.
